This is a wall art made with vintage silk kimono from the 1970s.

This navy blue silk kimono fabric uses the batik painting technique. This technique originated in Indonesia; the applied wax resists dyes and therefore allows the artisan to colour selectively after taking off the wax. On this batik navy kimono fabric, beautiful pink, white and blue flowers are painted. Each painted flower has a cracking line effect very specific to batik painting. The batik cracking method is done by application of wax with a brush and later the cloth is crumpled and crushed to produce the uneven crackled effect. Although this kimono fabric is over 50 years old, these abstract flowers give a feel of modern Scandinavian fabric design.
